Poetic Devises are tools we can use to create interesting poems and to open our minds to new ways of showing not telling about an idea. Have fun looking for these tools in newspapers or magazines tonight--one example of 2 different devises.
Please begin working on learning your states and capitals for the Midwest Region test next Tuesday. Begin thinking about why someone would want to move to the Midwest. Could you answer an essay question? What facts could you use to entice someone to settle here? How about to encourage visitors? You will have questions about your reading as well, so a little time preparing now will help you immensely.
Use your flashcards which we are creating to help you review your grammar concepts. Go back over old homework--see if you can answer the questions. Test will be the 14th (next Friday).

if your are doing an alliteration could you do something as labor of love or not. also we glue them on separate paper, right. also if we don't like the poem we did in class can we make a completely different on?

alliteration usually is several (rather than 2) words in a row... if you are desperate, you could use that one. Yes to separate piece of paper. You may absolutely change your poem. Please don't spend too long on the assignments! 45 minutes should be adequate....
Can we find something form a book, or do we have to find it from a newspaper or magazine.

Thomas, The catch with a book is that you are to cut the example out and paste it on a sheet of paper. If you don't have magazines or papers at home to use, you may borrow a magazine from me and use it in the morning to find them.
Walt Whitman, Captain my captain is certainly a classic. It is long, but you may certainly use it. Nice choice.
