What did you take away from today?

Weave your story's actions, character traits, setting, emotions, and dialogue together like a braid
Tonight's homework, set by our vising author,:
1. Finish and type a draft of your story.
2. Comic Sans Double Spaced.
3. Print out a copy to bring to school.
4. Save a copy onto a USB (or if you don't have a USB, you can upload your document to google docs)
5. Read the story to yourself (what do you hear that you need to change?)
6. Have another person read you the story (what phrases and verbs jump out at you? What parts don't sound as strong?) make notes of what you might need to change tomorrow.
Come ready to edit tomorrow!!

When you have you have a set of dialogue it would it be like this:
the cat ran up the tree.
"Get down here Lucy!"
or
The cat ran up the tree. "Get down here Lucy!"

Capitalize the first letter in your sentence (your second option). How can you show the cat running up the tree--can you use a more descriptive verb...what part of the tree (you may not want to change what you have, depending on what your focus is at this point in your story...)
You only need to have a finished draft on your USB and hardcopy. You do NOT need to write the whole draft out in your daybook.

how long should we spend studying the south east region and do we need to know the rivers and where the states are.
For tonight, you should be spending roughly 30 minutes studying and reviewing. Just learn the states tonight. We'll do some work in class tomorrow to help you learn the capitals. The bodies of water/Mountain you can pick up Thursday, since you know most of them anyway
